Spring Things 2019

March is typically an interesting month as far as weather goes; one minute it is raining and the next snow, and then the bright sun appears, tricking you into thinking it is warm out when it isn’t. Those of us that live in the Pacific Northwest seem to be challenged by this on a yearly basis, and frankly talking about the weather constantly bores me to tears. March is a fickle friend, so let’s love her for what she is and accept her multiple personalities with some great transitional fashion finds.

Over the past month I have been looking for new pieces to help give my closet a spring update. While I continue to reach for oversized cozy sweaters paired with skinny bottoms right now, my current mid-season look, I am also preparing my closet for warmer days. Here is what I love for now and into the warmer season again.

R13 Kate Low-Rise Cuffed Skinny Jean

Wide Cuff Denim

One of the denim trends I am currently obsessing over is cuffed denim. This style is big on effect, with the bigger the cuff the bigger the impact. Whether you want to wear a wide leg, like these rag & bone Ruth Super High-Rise Wide Leg Denim, or go for a sexy skinny pair, like the R13 Kate Low-Rise Cuffed Skinny Jean, this look is so on point. I bought the James Jean Melrose Sneaker Straight pair, which I will wear with everything from my white booties to sneakers. Wear a cropped sweater, or perhaps a vintage tee paired with a……

Belted and Oversized Blazers

Yes! Blazers can be worn year round and are a cool alternative to a coat or sweater. The perfect way to wear an oversized blazer? Belt it, baby. You can steal one from your husband and wrap a super cool belt around it, cinching in the waist to give the piece some chic drama. Or get your own. This Prada Worsted Wool Belted Blazer is the gold standard in my book. I am also loving the Annie Bing Fishbone Blazer I got recently; it has a generous cut made feminine and modern with a double wrap belt or my wide Gucci belt. And while we are on the subject of blazers, why not wear a……

Spring Suit

You can move the belted blazer to the next level with a modern suit. You don’t need an office job to wear a suit, and putting a spring spin on it makes it that much more interesting. I wore a Joie shorts suit on a recent trip to the Cayman Islands: The high waist shorts paired with a blazer that hit the length of the bottom of the shorts, all in a tropical print, made for a great warm weather look. Or go for a gingham suit like this ASOS one, because once again this spring/summer checks are everywhere. A double breasted suit jacket can be worn on its own or with a camisole for a day to evening look. This Staud Roxy Dress is a blazer as a dress...I am in love with this brand. If you aren’t in the mood for a suit, get yourself a…

Silky Midi Skirt

The midi skirt is a silky bias cut is a gorgeous cousin to the pencil skirt, but more free spirited and less buttoned up. The fluid lines of the bias cut skirt make it flowy and flattering, and who doesn’t love that?  I am wild for this Free People Normani Bias Cut Printed Skirt, not just for its pretty leopard print but the cut is incredible, and so is the price. $98. Big style find. And speaking of finds, the H&M Calf Length Skirt in a luscious burnt orange is going to be on constant rotation this spring for me. Another feminine piece that feels au courant. And speaking of that, you must have a….

Jumpsuit

The jumpsuit is really one of my favorites that reappears every season or so, reimagined. The downside to the jumpsuit is of course in its practicality…let’s just say it isn’t wise to wear on a plane. One pieces issued aside, it is such a chic look whether dressed up or low key. Jumpsuits can be playful, they can be black tie ready, then can go to work or to brunch or just about anywhere. The Pandora Striped Jumpsuit from Anthropologie works that one shoulder look and will make you the hit of the party, and I also love this DVF black one with a gorgeous asymmetrical necklne and one long sleeve. For a more street style look, go for a denim look, like this Topshop Denim Utility Boilersuit.

A Few Lovely Details

Staud Mini Shirley Beaded Bag. Image courtesy of Nordstrom.

As I mentioned above, I am love with the brand Staud, with their chic style dresses and modern bags that wink at classic styles. The Staud Shirley Beaded Mini Bag is perfect, with its clear PVC exterior showcasing the removable zippered, hand beaded pouch.

Also on my radar, hair accessories. While puffy headbands have been seen recently during fashion weeks around the globe, I am in love with the hair clips and pins that are everywhere. The Kitsch x Justine Marjan Glam Rhinestone Bobby Pin is super fun.

There is no need to hold out for warmer temperatures to give your closet a spring style boost. I hope that these favorites of mine inspire you to add a modern refresh to your wardrobe right now.
