sky high

I think I have hit a wall on my winter boot wearing days.  Other than my Hunter rainboots, which, where I live, are a year round kind of footwear.  Ok, and I am still into my Boulet cowboy boots, which I found last summer in Red Lodge, Montana, en route to my high school reunion.  They rock with skinny jeans or a dress.  Maybe shorts if I have a bit of amnesia about my actual age.  We'll see.
Anyhow, my friend Kelly and I have been very vocal about our love affair with the wedge.  They just go with everything, plus they make your legs look long, the styles are endless, and you can stand, walk, and dance backwards in them in total comfort.  What's not to love?
Last week my sister and I took a little field trip to DSW, land of the deal shoe, and we spent a bit of time there but I was having an off day.  Then I found a pair of coral (spring hot color alert!) wedges that I was on the verge of purchasing when my sister told me they were way too tall.  I think the exact words were "You look like Elton John".  Ok, that is hilarious, but I still wanted them.  I even asked a total stranger in the aisle if she thought I looked like Elton.  (The answer: "Um, no..." as she moved quickly away from me. )  I don't normally rely on other opinions for my decision making but I was off my game.  Settled for a pair of perfectly flat neutral suede gladiators that I had been looking for.  Luckily, I have a great pair of snakeskin ankle strap wedges from last year that go with everything, a sunny yellow pair with a cork base, and a blue metallic pair with ribbon ties at the ankle that I have had forever.   Still, I did look up the Elton shoes online and still might purchase.  Sorry, Jen.  :)
In addition to wedges, the bootie is everywhere as well, with hunky heels, animal prints, open toes, and platform, the options are endless and crazy fun, so its easy to make your "hello spring!" statement with edgy style.  I love the oxfords and the choices with those as well, you can go classic & tall, like the H by Hudson Cleo Wingtip or try Tibi's Cap Toe Flat Oxfords in yellow snakeskin or animal print.  I did have someone ask me if I just had finished golfing when I wore mine, but I was undeterred.
My all time favorite shoe this spring has to be the Jeffrey Campbell Mariel Wedge in Cheetah.  Now if that isn't Elton I don't know what is, and I am ok with that.  Have fun, and remember, with spring shoes the skies the limit.
